Trucks engaged in road transport here in Australia were, in the main, powered by petrol engines until well into the 1970’s. While diesel engines were available, these only gained a small proportion of the truck market, but this would change, and quickly, as we moved to the 1980’s.
During these ‘petrol years’, trucks from the USA or based on US designs remained with petrol engines. International Harvester was a dominant player in the Australian trucking industry and its products were highly regarded.
