After a visit to the Greenock Aviation Museum recently, where I witnessed the running of a C7 Mk.IV Commer with a TS-3 diesel engine, I began to reminisce back to my early teenage years, and then further, to my years as an apprentice heavy-truck motor mechanic with Ray Wolfenden, in South Geelong, Vic.

As an apprentice, I had maintained and repaired these wonderful British trucks. Later, as the Service Manger for Camerons’ Diesel Service, in Belmont, I was again involved with them, but this position required removing the TS-3 after years of hard work, and replacing it with either a Detroit diesel 6V53 or a 4-71 two stroke diesel, thus extending their working lifespan.
