In May, 1969, Alan Cant of AEC Logging Company was approached by the transport company who had the contract to deliver steel gas pipes along the six foot deep trench that was being dug from Adelaide to the Moomba gas fields, a distance of over 600 kilometres from the depot at Terowie, SA.

deal for the transport of these pipes, with timber bolsters being added to the existing steel bolsters. The trailers could be allowed to run 50 feet or more, connected to the truck by a steel cable plus by the brake hoses.
