King of The Road 1928 Style

In a nondescript shed in Sydney’s outer south-west, sits a remarkable piece of Australia’s road transport history. The vehicle in question is a three-axled 1928 Karrier model WL6/2.

Its statistics are very impressive. The motor is a 7 litre Dorman 6JUL petrol with twin up-draught Zenith carburetors. There is no electric starter, (although it does have ring gear), starting is strictly by ‘Armstrong’. Brakes are Westinghouse air on the rear axles (open drums, no backing plates), none on the front axle. Differentials are under slung worms. The wheelbase is 17 foot 6 inches with an overall length of around twenty-eight feet. Unladen weight is 6 ton, 12 hundredweight, 2 quarters, and carrying capacity, well that’s anyone’s guess.

What is the story behind this monster?
