At the end of the Second World War, Australia went into rebuild mode. Sawn timber was in short supply on the mainland of Australia, as a direct result of Darwin’s bombings by the Japanese in 1942-43. One-third of the city’s homes were badly damaged, with the city needing raw building materials to rebuild.

Tasmania had been a major source supplier of sawn and dressed timber for a many before the war. High quality Tasmanian Oak (Eucalyptus regnans) being especially in demand locally, whilst still satisfying overseas markets.
