My Dad “The Interstater”

In January 1934, at the age of six, my dad George Cherote, arrived in Sydney, Australia, from Lebanon on the Italian ship, Remo, with his mother and three sisters. They were meeting up with his father and elder brother who had arrived approximately 12 months earlier.

Dad grew up on family-owned farms and market gardens in the Hornsby, Waitara, Dural, and Eastern Creek areas around Sydney. He quickly learnt how to plough and plant crops, as well as drive and operate all types of machinery equipment and most vehicles.
