Two Speed Axles and Matching Gearboxes

The increased use of multi-range manual gearboxes with more semi-automatic and full automatic transmissions available has seen the departure of two-speed rear axles, although many classic trucks retain this feature.

Generally used with four or five-speed gearboxes, the two-speed axle offered increased overall drive ratios to better suit available engine power, load and terrain requirements.
