I have just received issue #51 of VTCM, and as always it is full of interesting articles. The section on tankers took me back to the late 1950s, when I worked for the Shell Oil Company at their Port Kembla Terminal, NSW. At the time, I was driving a bogie AEC rigid tanker that had its own dog trailer tanker when needed. Two senior drivers with identical rigs to mine, did the run to Eden, NSW, at least once a week with the dog attached, while I supplied the Highland depot at Bowral, NSW, minus the dog, as Shell had banned using them on Macquarie Pass which is the route I had to travel. I also did fuel oil to the local industries, only delivering to Eden in busy periods.
